NEWPORT - Eliza Stanley Oglesby, the daughter of the late Benjamin Edward Stanley and Mary Fleming Stanley, passed away peacefully at her home in Newport, North Carolina, on Thursday, July 26, 2012. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Brooks Funeral Home in Morehead City on Friday, August 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Jack Mumford, officiating. Mrs. Oglesby was born on July 27, 1925, in Kinston, N.C.; graduated from Grainer High School in Kinston; and attended Meredith College in Raleigh. After marrying her high school sweetheart on November 15, 1947, she was a homemaker until going to work for Dr. Ross Fogleman as receptionist and bookkeeper. In 1979, she and her husband Ralph, retired to their home on Bogue Sound. Her passions in life were her church, family and the grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Gran. Mrs. Oglesby was a member of First Baptist Church in Morehead City where she worked in the "soup kitchen" and was known as the "dessert lady." She was also a member of the Joy Singers Choir. She is survived by her children, Ralph Sherwood Oglesby Jr. and wife Susan, of Kinston, N.C., Patricia O. Eubanks and husband Jacky, of Conover, N.C., and Eliza O. Baker and husband David, of Newport, N.C. Gran was surrounded by grandchildren who loved her dearly, Wood Oglesby of Wilmington, N.C., Carrie Jo Oglesby of Greenville, N.C., Ashton Creech of Newport, N.C. , Jordan Eubanks and wife Heather, of Los Angeles, Calif., Dr. Will Baker and wife Rebecca, of Greenville, N.C., Josh Baker and wife Lauren, of Birmington, Ala.; and great-grandchildren, Addison Baker, Reese Baker, and Ashlynn Creech. She is also survived by her twin sister, Martha Dale of Kinston, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews who were a special part of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Ralph Oglesby Sr. and a special great aunt, Carrie Lee Beasley. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m. with the family.
