Efstathios Fotios TsaganisYorkEfstathios Tsaganis, 68, affectionately called Stathis and Stathika, passed away on Sunday, April 23 at York Hospital surrounded by his friends and family. He was born on February 2, 1949 in Athens, Greece, the third child of six. At the age of 16, he left home to work and travel the world in the Greek merchant marines. At 18, he enlisted in the Greek Air Force. In 1979, he married the love of his life, Evgenia Katsouras, in Athens, Greece. They immigrated to the United States, settling in York in 1981, where their three children were born, Fotios, 1984, Nikolaos, 1985 and Kiriaki, 1987.In America, Efstathios started as a chef before becoming a restaurant owner himself. He and his family moved to Key West, FL in 1990 and then Fort Myers, FL in 2002, where he opened a restaurant in each location. He was especially known for his seafood dishes. In 2008, he retired to York, where he enjoyed tending to his garden, adopting a dog named Ari, and spending time with his family.Efstathios was known for his joyous outlook on life, making friends wherever he went. He loved to spend time with them, sharing big meals, good drinks and traditional Greek songs. He was known for his sarcastic sense of humor and his great dance moves. Efstathios held a close bond with his family, where he was loved and respected not only as a father and husband, but also as a best friend.He is preceded in death by his father, Fotios Tsaganis; his mother, Kyriaki Tsaganis; and his brother-in-law, Grigoris Adamopolous. He is survived by his wife and children. Public viewing will be from 10 a.m. until a funeral liturgy begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 28 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 2500 Pine Grove Rd, York. Interment will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery, York. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where the funds will distributed to families who need support with cancer-related medical bills. JJHM.COM
