Edward Takumi MatsudaJuly 11, 1930 - April 16, 2017VisaliaEdward Takumi Matsuda, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017, following a short illness. He was born on July 11, 1930 in Fresno, California. He attended San Diego Community College where he received an Associates Degree. By trade, he spent 30 years as a standard's lab technician calibrating aerospace equipment. He married Suzuko ("Sue") Edith Yamashita, from Visalia, California, in September 1950, in Reno, Nevada. Subsequently, he and Sue moved to Chicago. His first daughter, Helen, was born in 1951 and his second daughter, Pegi, was born in 1954. After spending almost five years in Chicago, the family moved back to California and settled in San Diego where Edward started a new career as a mechanical engineer with Teledyne-Ryan Aeronautics. Although his job was satisfying, he was always best known for his many hobbies. These personal pursuits included repairing watches and jewelry, repairing autos and boats, building the family's first color television set, designing and building the family's furniture, everything to do with photography including photo developing in his make-shift home darkroom (prior to digital images), making toys for his kids and the neighbor kids (skateboards, miniature furniture for dolls, art projects for school. etc.). He also enjoyed making many friends as a reseller of technical manuals, calibration and test equipment, cameras (he was the proud owner of more than 50 cameras) and so much more. Chances are, if you needed something, Ed probably had it in his garage or in the house and could "make a deal." He is survived by his wife, Suzuko Edith, daughter Pegi (Larry Haworth), brothers Alfred (Yuri) and Hari and his sister, Yo. He is predeceased by his daughter, Helen, older brothers, Raymond and Frederick, and his mother, Mitsuyo and his father, Minoru. A beloved father, husband, brother and uncle, he will be missed and eternally loved by all who knew him. A memorial service is scheduled at graveside on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 9:00 AM at the Visalia Cemetery. Tributes and condolences may be offered at www.millerchaple.com
