Mystic - Edward M. Joynes, 75, of Mystic, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at his home.Ed was born on May 26, 1941, in Providence, R.I., the son of the late Walter and Lucy Ann (Millard) Joynes.He had been married to the late Gladys Fay Swindle on Dec. 23, 1979, in Groton; she passed away on June 13, 2005.Ed was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Navy from 1959 until his retirement in 1980.Mr. Joynes received his associate degree in culinary arts; and then worked as a chef for five years at the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, and for 11 years at Foxwoods.Ed is survived by three daughters, Nancy, Deborah and Susan; one son, Edward; two step-daughters, Sunni and Jonnie; grandchildren, Thomas, Rebecca, Shelby, Jacob, Jordan and Kyle; as well as several great-grandchildren.Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton.His burial, with military honors, will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton.A visiting hour will be held at the funeral home from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to his service.Please visit www.byles.com for directions, to sign his guest book, or to share a memory with his family.
