This obituary is administered by:
Miller, Edward C.Edward C (Ed) Miller, 94, of Binghamton, NY passed to his eternal rest on Thursday, May 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and dear companion. Ed was born on October 31, 1922 at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY, to Joseph and Frances Miller. Ed attended Johnson City High school and then served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp during World War II. He enlisted on July 13, 1942 and served until July 3, 1945. During these years, Ed fought in the Battle of Peleliu, Palau Islands. Upon his return, he went to work as a machinist for Endicott Johnson Corporation where he earned an award from the company for a Sewing Machine Needle Guard. He and his wife, Rita, started their family in Binghamton, NY, which was ultimately his greatest joy. He is survived by his children Glenn and Amata Miller, Linda and John Kittredge, Edward and Judy Miller, Judith Miller, and Richard and Michele Miller and his companion of over 20 years, Rose Hendrickson. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, each of whom he adored and made him smile whenever he saw them; Joseph (Katie) and Peter Eels-Miller, Audrey (Keith) Yeager, Brian and John Kittredge, Edward III (Tracy), Thomas (Erin), Melissa, James and Sean Miller, Brandon (Kim) Schuldt, Kelly (Kristofer) Dean, and Richard Miller Jr. and 11 great-grandchildren; Michael, Caroline and Matthew Eels-Miller, Charlotte and Kyler Yeager, and Natalie, Nora and Kevin Miller, Lincoln and Amelia Schuldt and Emery Dean. Eddie leaves behind many dear family members; loving sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Bill Kenville, sister-in-law, Anita Miller, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Karolyn and Francis Hamzik, and many nieces and nephews, Richard (Julia) Miller, Mandy (Phil) Doggett, Tammy (Richard) Balles, Joseph (Karen) Miller, Mary Lee (Dennis) Tripicco, Paul Nolan, Kathy Nolan Dudley, Laurie (Bill) Mahoney, Bill (Vicky) and Mark (Kathy) Kenville, Karin Combs, Kristine (Michael) Hickey, David Hamzik and Margaret Butler. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Rita, in 1992, his parents, his brothers, Louis, Joseph, and Richard Miller, sister Eleanor Nolan Somers, brother-in-law Paul Nolan, sister-in-law, Patty Miller, and nephews and niece, John Miller, Gerry Hamzik, John Combs, and Diane Hamzik. Ed was a lifelong member and former usher of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Johnson City, NY. He was also a member of the Order of Al Hambra, the American Legion post 1305, the Disabled American Veterans, the Bill Flynn Polka Club, the Polka Paraders and the Fr. Ambrose Dwyer 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. As in all things he did, he was a devoted and proud member to each. In 2011, Ed was asked to join an Honor Flight to Washington, DC, where he was honored for his service in World War II. Ed liked to cook and was famous for his family halupki dinners and his pancakes and waffles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and could often be heard singing and harmonizing to "Good Night Irene" at all "Good Family Gatherings," which he never missed. More than anything, Ed loved his family and his friends. He always had a friendly "hello" and some good advice for anyone he bumped into - stranger or friend. He was very proud of his family, and would often remind them, "Don't do as I do, do as I say." He will be remembered for his willingness to impart his wisdom on others, and his joking personality. He never failed to make those he met smile and was always willing to have a conversation with anyone who would listen. He will be missed by many and remembered fondly. His family would like to thank the staff and professionals at the NYS Veterans' Home in Oxford, NY. A special heartfelt thank you goes to his niece, Dr. Julia Miller, for the loving and special care she gave to Uncle Eddie. Calling hours will be held at the J.F.
