This obituary is administered by:
EDNA HOYER RAYBOULD Edna Hoyer Raybould, 96, died peacefully in her sleep September 28, 2016 at Larkspur Lodge. Following the death of her husband, Edna moved to Oroville in 2007 to be near her daughter, Dorothy Taylor. Edna was born on September 18, 1920, in Optima, Oklahoma, the daughter of Rev. George and Dorothea Hoyer. She had one brother, Norbert, deceased, and one sister Ellen Goehner (Ed) who lives in Franklin, Tennessee. Her son, John Arthur, died in 2004. Following the United States' entry into World War II, Edna enlisted as a WAVE of the Navy in 1943 and was assigned to the Navy's Bureau of Ships in Washington D.C. where she served as a stenographer until receiving her Honorable Discharge in 1946 following the war's conclusion. During her time in the WAVES she was also a member of the WAVES Drum and Bugle Corps. She participated in a number of parades honoring returning Admirals and Generals. The most memorable was the parade honoring General Dwight D. Eisenhower. She fondly remembers that as they Passed in Review he distinctly smiled at the WAVES as they marched by playing Anchors Aweigh. After her discharge Edna attended Valparaiso University where she met and married her husband Harold Raybould in 1948. They spent most of their married lives in the Tulsa OK area, retiring to Yuma Az. Very active in the church, Edna and Harold devoted their lives to living out their faith. Following retirement they traveled with Laborers for Christ helping to build church buildings around the country. In her later years she delighted in attending Worship Services, Bible Studies and sharing her years of wisdom with those studying with her. She is remembered for her sweet and gentle spirit. Edna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and John Taylor of Oroville, three granddaughters, one grandson, 6 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and a plethora of friends. She was a loved and vital part of her community and she is missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 11 am at Foothill Blvd. Church of Christ at 2295 Foothill Blvd, Oroville.
