Murray, EdithEdith Murray, of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully Monday, December 26, 2016, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. Edith was born on August 9, 1927 in Factoryville, PA and moved to Binghamton as a young adult where she raised her family. Edith also spent several wonderful years snowbirding with her husband Jim Murray where she enjoyed winters in Florida and summers at Timberline Lake in Pennsylvania. Her greatest joy in life came from the time she spent with her family. She especially loved shopping with her daughters, going to bingo, playing pinochle and caring for her beloved dog Lucy. She so looked forward to every occasion when her family was all together and was very proud to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. Edith made an incredible effort to keep in touch with everyone in her life and was always spreading her love and support. Edith is predeceased by her husband, James Murray; parents Walter and Elsie Treible; sister Lois Whitaker; her cherished daughter Cheryl Stone; son-in-law Michael Musok and special friend MaryAnn Gitchell. Edith is survived by her three devoted daughters and their families, Joann and Richard Bennett and sons Philip and Nick Bennett, Susan Musok and sons Jeremy (Kate) Musok, Jesse Musok and Michael (Alicia) Musok, Cindy (Dale) Gitchell and their daughters Kara (Zach) Vredenburgh, Kelsey and Kate Gitchell, granddaughter Kim(Dave) Gutwein as well as her sister Betty Burchell, seven beloved great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Sherry Murray and many special nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4-6pm at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 83 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905 with a service to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Edith Murray can be made to Hospice Care of Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, NY 13905 or The Broome County Humane Society, 2 Jackson St., Binghamton, NY 13903. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home.
