Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Apr 29, 2017 from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Woodlawn. Earl passed away on Friday, Apr 21, 2017 at Claiborne & Hughes Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on Oct 21, 1921 in Montgomery Co, TN to Charles and Maggie Sleigh. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodlawn where he served as a Deacon. He also served on the Landfill Board and the Tax Equalization Board in Montgomery County. During World War II he worked in a shell loading plant in Texarkana, TX. Earl was a lifelong farmer. He is preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Elizabeth Broadbent Sleigh, and survived by his son, John (Ann) Sleigh, Jr., daughters, Susan (Tom) McDonald and Tammie Sleigh, sisters; Dorothy Pollard, Betty Barnett, Merle Atkins, and Anna Mai Atkins, grandchildren; Merry (Darren) Ritzer, John P. Sleigh, David (Rosa) Sleigh, Andrew (Kimberly) Sawyer, and Elizabeth Sawyer, great grandchildren; Meridee and Madden Ritzer, and Sam, Oscar, Lucy, and Eloise Sleigh.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn Building Fund.Online condolences may be made at sykesfuneralhome.com
