Doris J. LakeAGE: 86 • Beaver West, VAMrs. Doris J. Lake, 86, of The Villages at Greystone in Beaver West Virginia, died on January 18, 2017. She has been a resident of Greystone for three and one-half years and has loved every minute of it. Doris was born on Sept. 2, 1930 in Rockaway Township, New Jersey. She was one of fourteen children born to Francis and Marian (Schimel) Williams. After graduating from Rockaway High School, Doris married Walter I. Lake and they purchased a house in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey where they lived together until Walter's passing in 2007 and her moving to West Virginia in 2013.Doris retired from the U.S. Department of the Army after a career as a comptroller at Picatinny Arsenal. She was a longtime member of United Methodist Church of Lake Hopatcong and was very active in the church and loved by the congregation. She loved music, reading, and was an avid knitter, making hundreds of prayer shawls, hats, and booties that she gave to many people.Doris is survived by her daughter Dianne (Roy) Milam of Hico WV and her son Brian Lake of Raleigh NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Anthony (Kirby) Milam of Charleston WV, Eric (Crystal) Milam of Oak Hill WV, Maria Milam (Auston McCleary) of Oak Hill WV, Patrick Lake of College Station TX, Kaitlyn Lake and Kelsey Lake of Orangeburg SC, and step-grandson Jamison D'Agata of Raleigh NC. Doris also was the Great-Grandmother to Everly Milam of Charleston WV. Also surviving is her sister Beverley Lagonikus of Dover NJ, two brothers Ronald (Linda) Williams of Lake Hopatcong, NJ and Raymond Williams of Morrero, LA and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service is planned to be held on Saturday January 21st. at 2:00 pm at the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church located at 401 W. Maple Ave. Fayetteville WV. The Rev. Greg Stone will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to The Gabriel Project, Fayetteville Center at PO Box 338 Fayetteville, WV 25840.Doris will be entombed in Locust Hill Cemetery in Dover, NJ beside her husband Walter.For those wishing to express your condolences to the Lake family, you may do so by visiting our website at www.doddpaynehessfuner alhome.com.Arrangements by Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, 350 W.
