Donita, affectionately known as “Dee,” was born on May 3, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Inez Rodgers and Donald Rodgers. On August 17, 2025, at the age of 65, Donita peacefully transitioned from this life into eternal rest.
Donita professed her life to Christ at a young age at Corinthian Baptist Church, planting her roots of faith that carried her through life’s journey.
She was educated at Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago and Shortridge High School in Indianapolis. The only daughter among four children, Donita held a special place in the Rodgers family. She shared a close bond with her late brother Gilbert Davis (survived by Debra Davis), and her surviving brothers Greg (Carol) Rodgers and Gerald Rogers, always cherishing the value of family instilled in them as children.
On February 13, 2010, Donita married the late Jessie Patrick. Their love brought joy and partnership until his passing in 2018.
Donita was a woman full of life, laughter, and love. She adored her family and friends and was the life of the party everywhere she went. You could feel Donita’s presence from her infectious laugh that could be heard across the room! She loved word searches, cards, spades, acey duecy, bid whist, gin rummy, and above all, Yahtzee! Music filled her heart, and food and gifts brought her joy, but nothing compared to time spent surrounded by family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she held a special bond with all 3 of her daughters.
Donita’s life was a celebration- vibrant, joyful, and filled with love. As we honor her memory, we rejoice knowing that she has reunited with her husband Jessie, both parents and her brother Gilbert, and that she now rests in the arms of her Savior.
Donita leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Christie Rodgers, Tameka Johnson and Shantel Easley, eight grandchildren, Christopher (Jasmine), Yahmani, Bryson, Chrishaun, Audrice, Aniya, Taiyona, and Erica. One great granddaughter, Callie Rodgers and Goddaughter, Bionka (Eddie) Killebrew. Two brothers, Greg (Carol) and Gerald Rodgers, two aunts, three uncles, generations of nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law, cousins and friends. Her legacy of laughter, love and family togetherness will continue to live on through them.
