DONALD D. HOLMES, 77 MONROE, Wis. - Donald D. Holmes, 77, of Monroe, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on September 3, 1935, in McConnell, IL; the son of John and Arvilla (Luke) Holmes. Donald graduated from Winslow High School and attended U.W. Madison. Donald and Marjorie Kraus were married on September 9, 1956, in Lena, IL. He was in the U.S. Army, serving from February 1954 to February 1956, as a Paratrooper with the 11th airborne and 82nd airborne. Donald was in sales for many years and later managed the Monroe Country Club from 1979 to 1985. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Zor Shrine, American Legion in Waunakee and the Masonic Lodge in Orangeville, IL. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Monroe; sons, James (Susan) Holmes of Ann Arbor, MI, Gary (Leigh) Holmes of Glen Burnie, MD, Douglas Holmes of Oregon, WI; brother, Robert (Carol) Holmes of New Glarus; sisters, Judy ( Jim) Henderson of Valparaiso, IN, Linda (Elwood) Higley of Carlsbad, CA; 5 grandchildren, Brittany, Ryan, David, Eric and Catie. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be noon Saturday, May 4, at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave., with Pastor Craig Jan McMahon officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport, IL. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
