Don Mayo Obituary

Jul 21, 1948 - Jan 20, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Don MayoMemphis, TNDon Mayo passed away on July 20, 2017 from metastatic melanoma of the brain. He was born on July 21, 1948 in New Albany, Mississippi, but lived in Memphis, Tennessee. Most importantly, Don knew Jesus Christ as his savior. He loved Jesus with all his heart, mind, soul, and strength and he loved to share Christ with others. He married his lifelong love, Susan McCullough, on February 26, 1971. He loved, served, and cherished her until his final day. They had two children, Amy and Donny (Donny was understandably the favorite). Amy and Donny married Mike Cornelius and Kathryn Wright, respectively. Don and Susan loved Mike and Kathryn as their own children. Amy and Mike have three boys; Thomas, Carter, and Davis. Kathryn and Donny have two boys; Jonah and Caleb. He loved these boys so much and to them, he was Papa, and he was a great one. Don was the definition of a hard-working man and he worked, not for status, but to provide for his family as best he could. He was also the toughest man you have ever met. He faced many physical ailments throughout his life and he faced each of them without complaint, nor self-pity. He also was a kind man. He sought to help people however they needed. He helped to park cars for senior adults at church, drove a dental van that served those in need, cooked meals for people mourning, whatever was needed. Don was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Mayo. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Mayo, sisters, Jackie Davidson (Sammy), Denise White, brother, Wayne Mayo (Judy). Also, wife of over 46 years, Susan Mayo, daughter, Amy Cornelius (Mike), son and favored child, Donny Mayo (Kathryn), grandsons, Thomas, Carter, and Davis Cornelius, and Jonah Mayo and Caleb Mayo, along with numerous others he loved. Don loved so well and is already missed. Yet, there is nothing any of his family want more than for him to be without pain, without sickness, with a new body, perfectly well, and with his Savior he loved so much. Therefore, it is well. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23, from 3:00-5:00pm at Bellevue Baptist Church. The memorial service will be held Monday, July 24, at 12:00pm at Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Shepherd's Haven in Don's name at shepherdshaven.org or 175 Shepherd's Haven Way, Arlington, TN 38002.
You can to the family or in memory of Don Mayo.
