Dolores H. Jones, lovingly known as Mama, Nana, Auntie, and Aunt Dolores, peacefully transitioned on February 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family.
She was born on May 3, 1939, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Irene Jones and Joe Harding. She was the youngest of six children and grew up surrounded by the love and strength of her siblings: Joe Lewis Harding, Grace Harding Merritt, Charles Harding, Edna Harding King, and James Earl Griffith.
Dolores graduated from Washington High School in Atlanta in 1957 and later built a career with the United States Postal Service. Living in Atlanta during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, she developed a deep and lasting commitment to justice and equality that shaped her lifelong advocacy.
As a devoted believer from a young age, she carried her faith through every season of life. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and later joined New Covenant Christian Ministries. As a breast cancer survivor, Dolores was an active member of the Breast Cancer Survivor Support Group – Decatur Chapter for many years, offering encouragement and hope while becoming a trusted mentor and friend to many. She was also a published author, sharing her story to inspire others.
In 1959, Dolores married Robert Harris, and together they welcomed two beautiful daughters, LaTanya and Melanie. She cherished her role as their mother and carried that love with her throughout her life.
One of her greatest joys came from being “Nana.” She adored her only granddaughter, Melanie Harris (Torian) Turner, and was overjoyed to welcome her great-granddaughter, Arie Faith Turner, born just one day before her birthday - a connection she treasured deeply. She was blessed to witness the legacy of her love through four generations.
Dolores will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, LaTanya Harris and Melanie Harris; her granddaughter Melanie Harris (Torian) Turner; her great-granddaughter Arie Faith Turner; and generations of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were blessed by her presence.
