Dijon Cornelius Smith, lovingly known as “DJ” or “Jon,” was born on June 21, 1984, in Buffalo, New York. He passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2025, in Conyers, Georgia, at the age of 40, due to a motorcycle accident.
Dijon was a devoted father, a loving son, brother, and friend. He leaves behind four beloved children: Devonte Smith (25), Dejah Smith (24), Dijon Cornelius Smith Jr. (19), and his youngest daughter D’jona Smith (18), who shared not only his heart but also his unmistakable features. His words to them will forever echo: “Don’t cry, don’t whimper, keep going and I’ll be right there every step, dead or alive. My kids are my world. Don’t ever give up—once you give up, it means you let the enemy win.”
He is survived by his mother, Sharlene Bonita Smith; his brothers, Kevin Barns and Joseph Smith; and his daughters and sons, who were his pride and joy. He is also remembered by his ex-wives, Telinda Woods and Alisa Marshal.
Dijon lived a colorful life full of challenges and triumphs. Though he faced struggles and a criminal past, he made the choice to leave New York to build a better future for his children. In Georgia, he purchased his first home, pursued his passion for producing music and drawing, and later began a career as an electrician. His creativity and determination left lasting impressions on those around him.
He had a deep love for motorcycles and fast cars, a passion that ultimately claimed his life but also defined his adventurous spirit. Dijon was happiest when surrounded by his children, laughing, drawing, or talking about his dreams. To everyone who knew him, he will be remembered as a man who cared deeply—not just for his own children but for any child who needed love.
A funeral service honoring Dijon’s life was held at Henry Funeral Home, 6833 Church St., Lithonia, GA 30058.
Though Dijon’s journey ended too soon, his legacy of love, strength, and resilience will live on through his family and all who knew him.
