Debra Derby, beloved mother, grandmother, and teacher, passed away on April 5th, 2023 in Washington, D.C. at the age of 62 and is now reunited with her father. Born on April 8th, 1960, Debra had a full life that touched so many.Debra grew up in Washington, D.C. with her parents, Marion Derby( Deceased ) and Bertha Ann Smalls. She attended Eastern SR High School, where she made lifelong friends and graduated in 1978. She then went on to attend Howard University, where she continued to grow her mind and spirit.Debra's true passion was teaching, and she dedicated her life to helping others learn and grow. She worked as a teacher for many years and touched the lives of countless students who remember her fondly. Debra was known for her kindness, patience, and her ability to make learning fun.Debra was survived by her loving daughter Sherita Derby, mother Bertha Ann Smalls, 3 brothers Michael Derby, Dwight Derby, and Marion Derby jr Grandaughter Ashley Derby, and 3 great grandchildren Angel Derby, Dae’ Marie Derby and Ashton Derby who she adored. She loved spending time with them, doing everything from reading books to playing games. Her grandchildren brought so much joy to her life, and she couldn't have been prouder of them.Debra was a bright light in the world, and her absence will be felt by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her infectious laughter, and her unwavering love for her family and friends.Rest in peace, Debra. You will be missed.
