Deborah Elizabeth Bliss GatelyThousand Oaks, CADeborah Elizabeth Bliss Gately passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at her home in Thousand Oaks, California, following a brave but losing fight against cancer. Debbie was born on March 23, 1947 in Blue Island, Illinois. She was the younger of two daughters born to Edward Carhart Bliss and Dorothy Caroline Davis Bliss. The Bliss family moved to Wilmette, Illinois when Debbie was 4. She attended Harper School, and graduated from Deerfield High School in 1965. The family moved to San Diego, California when her father retired in 1965. Debbie attended the University of Arizona where she was a charter member of Delta Zeta Sorority, then transferred to San Diego State University, obtaining a B.S. degree in Mathematics in 1969.Debbie married Alphonsus Philip Gately in the La Jolla Presbyterian Church in 1973 and divorced in 1991. They had 2 children, Edward (Ned) Alphonsus Gately, born in 1976 and daughter, Megan Elizabeth Gately, born in 1981.She moved to Thousand Oaks in 1994 while working as a computer systems analyst for Kinko's Corporate Headquarters in Ventura. She retired from Viking River Cruises in October 2016.Debbie is survived by son Ned (Erica) of Mesa, Arizona, and two granddaughters, Elsie and Elin, daughter Megan of Ventura, and sister, Bobbie Bliss Pittman of Camarillo.Debbie was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, friend who loved family, friends, travel, and life. She enjoyed laughing, reading, going to the beach, hiking with her dogs and her Christian faith. She is missed and we celebrate her life on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 2pm at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church at 588 Camino Manzanas in Thousand Oaks.
