Dean Albert HungerfordJuly 7, 1924 - January 29, 2016Dean Albert Hungerford was born on July 7, 1924 in Hecla, South Dakota to Albert B. Hungerford and Alma M. Heitman. He passed away on Jan. 29, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 10 at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Rd., Boise, Idaho.Dean lived in Hecla until the age of 6, when his family moved to Nampa, Idaho. After graduating from high school in Nampa, he served in the Navy as a Lieutenant JG during WW II from 1943 - 1946. Dean later went on to attend college, obtaining degrees from the College of Idaho and the University of California Berkley. Dean married Virginia Bell Mott of Nampa in 1951. They remained married until her death in 2004. A few years later, Dean married Doryce Coulter of Nampa. They remained married until her death in 2014.Dean's career in public health began in the 1950s, first working for the state of Idaho in Boise. He later went on to work for the federal Public Health Service, working in Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Denver. He became a regional director. In 1984, Dean and Virginia moved back to Boise following his retirement from the Public Health Service. After returning to Idaho, Dean continued to work for several years, first for the Idaho Primary Care Assoc. and then Mountain Health Clinics.After returning to Idaho, Dean and Virginia also pursued a longtime dream, building a cabin on their lot near Donnelly. They later sold that cabin and built a second cabin on Lake Cascade. Dean loved building the cabins as much as he did relaxing in them with his family. The cabins were an ideal spot from which to go fishing, an activity that Dean enjoyed much of his life. He liked to stay active, pursuing other interests including golf, snow skiing, playing cards, and coaching youth baseball and basketball. Dean often said how fortunate he was to have lived such a long, full life and have two wonderful wives. Dean had a nice sense of humor and was fun to be with. He was loved and will be missed by many.From his marriage to Virginia, Dean is survived by his son Roger of Eagle, stepson Bill Mott and wife Gail of Boise, stepdaughter Linda Sedbrook and husband Mike of Denver. He is also survived by grandchildren Matt Hungerford of Boise, Todd Hungerford of Murfreesboro, TN, step-grandchildren Kevin Mott and wife Mimi of Walla Walla, WA., Christi Mott and partner Ron Hohowski of Boise, Jason Fletcher and wife Jill of Denver, David Sedbrook of Denver, Stacey Sedbrook of Denver. He is also survived by step-great-grandchildren Brian and Amelia Mott, Elijah Sedbrook, and Gabriel, Noah, and Rowan Fletcher. From his marriage to Doryce, Dean is survived his stepson John Coulter and partner Raye of Nampa, stepson Eric Coulter and wife Michelle of Nampa, stepdaughter Michelle Stanley of Boise. He is also survived by step-grandchildren Dustin and Daylene Coulter of Nampa, Taylor Ann Stanley of Boise.
