Dean A. DerksDean A. Derks, age 79, formerly of Dimondale, MI, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Poppen Residence.  He was born on February 23, 1938 to James and Helen (Stegenga) Derks in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating from Union High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. Dean went on to work for the highway department with MDOT for 35 years until his retirement in 1997. In his retirement, he worked for Michigan Logos for ten years. Dean also was proud to deliver Meals on Wheels to many members of his community. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching and participating in many sports, especially hunting fishing and sailing. On April 3, 1964, he married the former Louise Raum, she survives him along with his two daughters, Valerie Derks and Stephanie Derks; brother, Harold (Carol) Derks; sister, Shirley (Dick) Tindall; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Laura, Dorothy and Robert. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Dean on Friday, August 11, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S.
