David Smith Jr was the 4th child of 6 children born in December 21, 1934 to the late David and Irene Smith Sr in Brinkley, Arkansas. He received his formal education in the Brinkley Arkansas school district and graduated from Marian Anderson Highschool.

David was inducted into the United States Army where he served his tours of duty in the jungles of Vietnam; he rose to the rank of sergeant. While in the service he played basketball just like he did in highschool. He was a celebrated athlete and a decorated war hero.

Later he moved to Michigan where he was employed by General Motors for twenty-six years. He was a very family oriented man, he loved to spend time and tell funny stories about his historical life. David was called home on Monday October 11,2021 after a long battle of cancer. 

David was preceded in death by his parents as well as 3 siblings.

He leave behind to cherish his 2 children Glen (Sandra) Ramsey, Lavern McNeal (David). 2 siblings, and a host of grandchildren, great grand children, and family and friends.
