Schmidt, David A.David A. Schmidt, 77, of Fond du Lac, died Monday, August 14, 2017, at Hospice Home of Hope.He was born on March 6, 1940, in Fond du Lac, a son of Arnold and Margaret Krug Schmidt. David was a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Class of 1958. He served with the United States Army, in Germany, from 1963-1965.On March 15, 1969, he married Sally Gross at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac. They later divorced, and he married Connie LeMieux on August 23, 1986, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Town of Forest. Dave and Connie enjoyed seven winters as snow birds camping in Florida.He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Town of Forest, where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He also sang with the Forest Quartet and the Joyful Witness Choir.David was a Local 200 Teamster member for 35 years. He drove truck for Gateway Transportation, C.W. Transport, Gross Common Carrier, Mercury Marine, Crouse Cartage, and retired from C.F. in Milwaukee.He enjoyed playing baseball for the Log Tavern team and the Forest A.C.'s for 22 years. He managed the team for four years and served two terms on the board. He also played softball in various leagues, and was inducted into the WELS Men's Softball Hall of Fame in 2014. Dave is survived by his wife, Connie; #1 son, Todd (Sara) who shares Dad's mild mannered personality, love of baseball, and OF's, but lacks Dad's built in GPS; grandchildren, Heather (Paul) Niebuhr and Tyler loved their camping trips and bike rides with Grandpa; #2 son, Troy (Lisa) who shares Dad's love of trucks, he is proud to have his fleet of milk trucks and hopes his sons, Brady, Blake, and Baker will someday join him in the business; and his feisty daughter, Tammy (Ryan) who successfully raised Dakota and Dalton with the strong work ethic that her Dad taught her; batting clean-up is his stepson, Jeramy (Jo-Anne) LeMieux and grandchildren, Zachary and Livia, all of whom love their Papa with all their hearts. He is further survived by two brothers: Fred (Carol) of Fond du Lac and Mark (Carla) of Madison; and two sisters: Ellen (Bob) Pieper of Medford and Kathy (late Bob) Bennot of Wautoma.He was preceded in death by his parents.Dave's lifelong dream was fulfilled on November 2, 2016, to see his beloved "Cubbies" win the World Series. A life completed and lived well.VISITATION: The visitation will be from 10:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, W2090 Highway 23, Mt. Calvary.SERVICE: The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Barenz officiating.
