We are gathered here today to bid farewell to our dear Darlene Smith, who left us on June 7, 2024, after a valiant battle with heart disease that unfortunately called her home. Darlene was born on November 4, 1952, in Battlecreek, Michigan, to her loving parents, Robert and Joyce Smith along with a handful of cousins derived from the Smith name.
She married the love of her life, Daniel Greer, in the year 13, and together they raised their son Brian Greer. Darlene attended Battlecreek Central High School and graduated in 1970 before furthering his education at Grand Valley State University, where she graduated in 1975 with a degree in teaching. Darlene later moved to Detroit, MI and became an elementary school teacher where she taught grades forth through fifth she taught at various school within the city until her retirement in 2010. Darlene was loved and cherished greatly by her staff and students whom she had such a huge impact on they were sadden by her death but happy from all the memories that were created among them.
When Darlene wasn't supporting her her students or being a loving wife and mother at home, she enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, cooking, fashion, reading, and bowling with traveling league along with her dearest friends. She had a keen eye for style, a green thumb that could rival any professional garden her memory, and had a very rambunctious and contagious laugh along with the energy to match. We will always remember Darlene with a smile on her face, a book in her hand, and an apron on in the kitchen, she brought joy and laughter to all who knew her, and we will cherish the memories we shared with her forever.
Rest in peace, Darlene. May your heavenly garden always be in full bloom.
