Concepcion "Nono" R. MendezSan AngeloConcepcion R. Mendez (Nono), 83, of San Angelo, passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, in a local care center, surrounded by his loving family.He was born on Jan. 28, 1934, to Manuel and Sidelia (Rodriguez) Mendez in Del Rio, Texas. Concepcion worked for Texas Tank Car Works and later he had his own company, Mendez Roofing.He married Rufina Lucio on Nov. 24, 1953, in San Angelo. They enjoyed 52 wonderful years together until her passing on Oct. 31, 2005.He enjoyed cooking for his family. After the passing of his wife, he enjoyed eating at La Esperanza and meeting his many friends there. Spending time with his family and his grandchildren were important to him.Pallbearers are Lenard Anthony Hernandez, C. J. Mendez, Barnabe Mendez, Jeremiah Sosa, Isaiah Traverzo and Joe Angel Mendez.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Oscar Mendez; and his sister, Pabla Mendez.Concepcion is survived by his loving children, Ramiro (Natalia) Mendez, Diana (Leonard) Hernandez, Alma (Robert) De La Rosa, Barney (Margaret) Mendez, Armandina "Mandy" (Richard) Sosa, Amalia Mendez, Amelia (David) Talamantez, Concepcion (JoElla) Mendez Jr.; brother Alonso "Haricol" (Rosa) Mendez; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; special niece Mary Ellen Lopez; and nephew Fernando (Nellie) Mendez.Viewing is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, with prayer service at 7 p.m. in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel, with daughter Diana Hernandez officiating.
