Clarence E. Butler Obituary

Feb 04, 1955 - Mar 28, 2019

This obituary is administered by:

Clarence E. Butler, III was born on February 4, 1955 in Washington, DC to the late Clarence E. Butler, Jr. and Shirley E. (Coombs) Butler. Clarence (better known as “Bey-Brother), was the second sibling of three children which includes his older sister, Sheila Butler Farley and his younger deceased brother, Jerome “Roni” Butler, Sr. Clarence and his family grew up in the Parkside area of NE, DC, until his parents moved into their home near Minnesota Ave & 23rd St. SE in 1967. As a child, Clarence enjoyed all types of sports, he was very energetic and light on his feet. He became one of the Washington Redskins most die-hearted and loyal fans and everybody knew what NFL football team that he really liked, because he was always dressed in Redskins apparel, from head-to-toe. Another one of Clarence’s most enjoyable hobbies was displaying his talents on the dance floor. When he was a young teen, in the late 60’s, him and his sister, Sheila, would often cut-a-rug on the dance floor, at a teenage dance show, called “WingDing.” This dance facility would broadcast their dance shows on the air, on the local TV network and Clarence could not wait to see himself perform on the dance floor, the next day, when the program would air again. Clarence had a variety of occupational duties, such as working with the Green Door organization, which finds disabled people temporary, blue-collar jobs. He once worked, for a short-time, with the Goodwill Industries, as a Janitorial Custodian, sweeping and mopping floors. Clarence also had a temporary job at a local Starbucks, doing the same occupation. After Clarence was no longer able to work, due to his declining health, he retired and resided in several semi-independent care facilities, in the DC area, until his final health care facility at FutureCare Pineview, Clinton, MD.  It was an answer to his sister, Sheila’s prayers that he would someday live close to her, so that she would not have to travel along way to see him. So, when Clarence moved closer to his sister, on 28th & Q St, SE., Sheila and her husband and other family members would go by to visit him, watch tv and chat with him, while Sheila would clip his finger-nails and toe-nails. It was a special time for the family, especially for Sheila, when we could drive by the house, in the mornings and see Clarence sitting outside relaxing, on a sunny day. The last semi-independent housing facility that Clarence lived in was located off of Nannie Helen Burroughs, Ave, NE, where family would often visit him and bring him some of his favorite fast-food dinners, such as Popeyes chicken, McDonald and Kentucky Fried chicken. Clarence now leaves behind a treasure-trove of loving family members and friends. The following loved ones are who he talked about he most: his sister Sheila B. Farley (Drake); his niece, Shakira Butler and her daughter, Kariah Butler; his nephew Jerome Butler, Jr.; and his niece, Monique Jackson; and his other nieces and nephews: Tiairra Jackson; Shayla Jackson; Mone’ Jackson; Saadiya Jackson; great nieces and nephews; two Aunts; one Uncle; and a host of close cousins; and other family and friends.
