Obituary for Christopher Paul Mazetis

We are saddened to announce the passing of Christopher Mazetis, who was born on May 2nd, 1980 in Oakland, Iowa. He passed away on April 20th, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Christopher was the beloved son of Stan and Pamela Mazetis and loving husband of Shalimar Mazetis, whom he married in 2015. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Miranda Butler and Jaeger Jean Mazetis, and an adored brother to Rachael (Evan) Jones, Jamie (Jill) Kadel, and Shelly (Todd) Williams; uncle to Trey (Jenna) Cleaveland, Daisha (Mitchell) Easton, Mitchell (Delayne) Geyer, Gavin (Brit) Geyer, Adam (Jenna) Hebing, Jaxon Kadel, Owen Kadel, Addison Kadel, Piper Ryon, Carter Ryon, Tyler (Kelsey) Williams, Garrett Williams and Taten Williams; and grandpa to Brinly Jo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Daniel Reitner.

Christopher lived his life in Oakland, Iowa, and loved that community with his whole heart. He spent much of his career working in the farming industry and had a deep passion for all aspects of farm life. He was known for his incredible handyman skills and ability to fix anything that crossed his path. He took great pride in serving his loved ones and his community with his talents.

Christopher adored his family, especially his daughters. He spent the last 3 years creating a lasting connection with Jaeger, who was his little best friend. His love for his girls ran deep and will be carried on through the stories and memories of their shared bond. He was a devoted husband to Shalimar and together they built a wonderful life and had a happy home.

In his free time, Chris loved camping, hanging out at the rock quarry, and spending quality time with friends and family. It was said that you were "Mazetis'd" when he could convince you to stop what you were doing and have a good time with him. People never left his side without a smile on their face. He was known for his love of a good time, but also for his love of people and a deep drive to help others. He was ever eager to lend a helping hand and spread kindness wherever he went. Nearly everyone who knew him has a story of Chris coming to their aid. His heart was huge and welcoming and his loss leaves a massive hole in the Oakland community.

Chris faced his final challenge with bravery and strength, as he fought a short but valiant battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
