A life well lived
Cheryl Nadine Sanders-Stewart was born Monday evening, May 27, 1974 in Fort Lauderdale, Fl to Willie Sanders Sr. and Rosie Bell Standmire-Sanders. She was delivered by her Maternal Grandmother, Luetta Standmire, who served as midwife. After the death of her mother in 1937, she and her siblings, David, Jerome, Tarryn, and Willie Jr. were reared in the home of their Paternal Grandparents, Wyatt and Luetisha Sanders. The Stewart children spent the summer months with their Maternal Grandparents, Tom and Luetta Stewart in Kingston, Jamaica.
Young Ruby Lee excelled in school and was very active in school and church activities. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1945.
After graduating high school, she attended Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View, TX. Ultimately moving to Houston on January 1, 1994 and resided in the home of her uncle and aunt, Jesse and Lovie Butler. Upon moving to Houston, she enrolled at Franklin Beauty College and successfully completing all courses, becoming a licensed beautician an occupation, she worked in for several years. She later completed courses at the University of Texas at Austin and University of Houston.
She was a long serving member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in the Acres Homes Community joining in 1948. Mosley served under the leadership of the late Rev. Gussie G. Grant and Rev. Calvin O. Randle in many capacities. Lastly, she held the positions of choir president and secretary of the Trustee Board until her health prevented her from doing so.
On March 16, 1962, she married her husband of over fifty-three years Melvin Mosley and together they raised their daughters and grandchildren.
She worked as a health coordinator for 18 years at Gulf Coast Community Services, advocating to provide water, sewer and other city services to residents in the rural areas of Houston. Afterward, she joined the City of Houston Cuney Homes Housing Development as a community service supervisor for 13 years, providing essential services for senior citizens and children retiring in 1995.
Through the years, she played an integral role in creating the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center and she was a member of multiple local organizations, including the Acres Home Advisory Committee, Acres Home Super Neighborhood, Houston Police Department Advisory Committee and Gulf Coast Community Services Association.
Ruby Lee Mosley was affectionately known the "Mayor of Acres Homes," and the Houston Chronicle named her “Acres Homes' Grande Dame of Community Activism”, due to her commitment to improving the community. In 2004 the Ruby Mosley Parental Technology Center opened on the grounds of M. C. Williams Middle School. And, in 2011 the Auditorium of the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center was named in her honor.

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Stewart, daughter Wanda Stewart, parents Willie and Rosie Sanders.
She leaves to cherish her memories Two Beloved Daughters Carrie Stewart and Merilyn Stewart. Eight Adored Grandchildren Marisa Price-Green (Kelvin), Laderenia Price-Dixon, Tameika Price-Pugh (Thurman), Damian “D. D.” Price, Urtis Cross, Jarvis Deon Price (Alicia), Jazmon Mosley and Terriny Mosley-Richard. Fourteen Great-Grandchildren. One Brother, Willie Sanders Jr.; A Special Niece, Alexis Stewart of Valdosta, GA One Uncle, Willie Rivers of Valdosta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends of Opa-Locka Church Of God.
