Charles Roger Sumner, 74, of Galax, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, in the Twin County Regional Hospital. He was born on Aug. 16, 1942, to Sterling and Alice Newman Sumner. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Shaw Sumner of Galax; daughter and her fiancee', Lisa Mitchell and Ramon Wix of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Carmen Sumner of Lincolnton, N.C.; son, Brad Sumner and Sam Witherspoon of Decatur, Ga.; two grandchildren; a cousin; one niece; and one nephew. A memorial service was held Dec. 8, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel with Marvin Williams, Carroll Lineberry and Steve McCollum officiating.
