He was born on November 27, 1938 in Santa Monica, CA to Francis Michael Ludwig and Mary Ruth Westergard. At the age of nineteen, Chuck went to work for United Airlines, where he remained a loyal employee for forty-two years. Chuck was an avid reader and a music lover. He loved to visit the desert and to gaze at the stars. He was also known for his irreverent sense of humor. He was obsessed with time pieces, in fact, his family teased him because even with all the watches and clocks he collected; he was never on time for anything. His kids called him an "Armchair Jeopardy Champion," due to his ability to provide the right question for every answer. Chuck adored his children and his wife Shelley. Chuck is survived by his wife Shelley Ludwig, his three daughters; Toni Licciardi (Tom) of Somerset NJ, Terra Shiffer (Jerry) of Silverton, OR., Mary Bessette (Chuck) of Portland, OR, his son; Charlie Ludwig of Portland, OR, his stepdaughter; Debbie Brokaw, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
