Mochrie, Charles David "Charlie"a resident of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the age of 71 after a fifteen-year battle with pulmonary hypertension. At his request, no formal service will be held.Charlie was born on January 25, 1946 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Charles Edward Mochrie and Evelyn Osteen Mochrie. The family moved to Elmira, NY when he was just a toddler. He attended Elmira Free Academy where he graduated in 1964. His passions included music, cooking, billiards, and fishing. After working at the A&P Plant for 15 years, Charlie moved to Las Vegas in 1980 to pursue another career when the A&P Plant closed its doors. One of his proudest achievements in Las Vegas was heading up the Food & Beverage team when he opened both the Bellagio and Mandalay Bay Resort Hotels. Charlie also bought Food & Beverage for many renowned chefs, most notably multi-award-winning French Chef Joel Robuchon, the highest ranked chef in the world who is also referred to as the "Chef of the Century." For recreation in Las Vegas, he joined a pool league where he achieved recognition as both the top team shooter and top league shooter. He left Las Vegas in May 2014 to return home to Elmira and was employed as a limo driver by 5 Star Limo of Elmira. He was a very popular and highly requested driver, specializing in wine tours. Charlie was a member of several different bands, including Charlie and the Checkers, The Upsetters, and Sax Fifth Avenue. He sang and played tenor sax for numerous weddings, Ramsey's Bar, the Dahlia Bar, and the Corning Hilton Hotel, to name a few. His favorite gig, however, was singing and playing his sax at the Holiday Inn Elmira-Riverview to standing-room-only crowds.Charlie was an only child and was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Mochrie and Evelyn Osteen Mochrie.Charlie is survived by his wife, Joyce Mochrie, beloved dog, Chica, Aunt Irene Grinolds, and cousins Curtis Bolden, Robert James Summers, Diane Summers Hughes, and Patricia Osteen.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the animal shelter of your choice.Family, friends, and acquaintances are invited to bring music and food to share in the celebration of Charlie's life on Sunday, July 23, 2017, in the ballroom of the Holiday Inn Elmira-Riverview from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kalec Funeral Home.
