This obituary is administered by:
Dr. Charles Aquilla (Quill) AllenFebruary 21, 1921 - September 29, 2015I was born on the twenty-first day of February 1921, in Hyrum, Utah. My parents were Aleda Anderson Allen and Russell Gale Allen, both Hyrum natives. I had two brothers: Reed, three years older, passed away in 2005, and Thair, seven years younger, passed away in l981 from a heart attack.I received my early schooling at the old Lincoln Elementary and the old South Cache High School where I was very active in athletics. Graduated from high school and seminary in 1939.Entered Utah State Agriculture College where I earned letters in basketball and football and directed the campus Intramural Program, joined the SAE fraternity and was listed in the Who's Who of Outstanding Students on U.S. Colleges and Campuses. Graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor's of Science in Education. While on campus, I enlisted in the Officers Candidate Program in the Army. They allowed me to finish the program as well as graduate from college before I was called into the service.Upon entering the service I was inducted at Fort MacArthur, California, and sent by train to Camp Davis, North Carolina, to officer training camp for three months. I was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in Dec of l943, in the coast artillery. I spent two years in the southern states training men for overseas duty. My turn came to go which sent me to the Philippine Islands for one year at Baguio as an athletic and recreation officer at Camp John Hay. The Japanese surrendered while we were in Pearl Harbor on the way to the Philippines, so I never did see any action. I retired from the service with an honorable discharge as a 1st Lt. in 1946. Upon returning home and separating from the service, I entered Utah State to obtain a master's degree in the field of Education in 1945. I fulfilled all the requirements for a master's degree, except writing a thesis. Roma Poole and I were married in the Logan Temple on the 22nd of November, l946.We taught at Cedar High School for two years, and I coached basketball and baseball. We then returned to Utah State to acquire the necessary credits to enter Dental School. I entered Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri, and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1954. We returned to Logan, Utah, and I practiced dentistry there for thirty-two years before retiring in 1986. I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions, including two Bishoprics, and as an officiator in the Logan Temple. I have a strong testimony of the Church and the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have four beautiful children: Kittie, Bonnie, Julie and Charles. At the present time, July 2001, I am eighty years old and still going strong, for which I thank the Lord every day for the life I have had. LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD AND LIFE IS GOOD!! ... ENJOY - QUILLQuill lost the love of his life, Roma Poole, May 19, 2006. Soft spoken and deeply caring, he missed her dearly.
