Charlene Hughes was born on March 20, 1938, to the union of Conorie & Josie Mae Richmond in Walnut Grove, Mississippi. She moved to Indianapolis, IN with her husband to raise her family.Charlene accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pathway Missionary Baptist Church when she moved to Indianapolis. She worked in microfilm where she retired from the city of Indianapolis. She loved her family and she loved to cook. Cooking was an expression of love for Charlene. She would feed anybody; everybody loved her southern style of cooking. She also loved getting dressed up and going to church, she loved her hats and suites, and she loved going to listen to the word of God. One of her favorite lines was, “If you don’t know God you better get to know him. Charlene departed life on Tuesday November 14, 2023. She was preceded in by her husband (James Howard Hughes), Son (Howard Hughes), Mother (Josie Mae Nicholson), Sisters (Betty and Joan Richmond), Brother (Kermit and Roy Richmond).She leaves to cherish her memory: Sister Cora Holifield of Milwaukee, WI; Sons (Dewain and Michael Hughes); Daughter Charlotte Twyman (Greory); 10 Grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
