AVILLA — Cathy J. Thorne, age 72, of Avilla passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Thorne was born on May 15, 1944, in Auburn to Denver and Lura (Kaufman) Kogin. She married Michael Thorne on July 29, 1972, in Fort Wayne. He resides in Avilla. Mrs. Thorne worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne for 32 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Avilla American Legion Post 240 Auxiliary. She enjoyed woodcarving, camping, traveling, crocheting, dancing and motorcycle riding. Survivors include her husband, Michael Thorne of Avilla; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Marilyn Randall of Rome City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lori Lutz of Albion and Michele and Ryan Schlichtenmyer of Kendallville; 11 grandchildren, Ashley Kaley, Sara Randall, Tina Johnson Wolff, Angie Snider, Tiffany Franks, Tim Hans II, Cody Hans, Paige Hans, Riley Randall, Laney Schlichtenmyer and Levi Schlichtenmyer; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharron Lonsbury of Columbia City; a brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Jo Anna Kogin of Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; great grandson Austin Johnson; two brothers, Tom Kogin and Fred Kogin; and a sister, Marcia Gudas. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
