Groton - Catherine P. Lange, of Groton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at Fairview Nursing Home, Groton.She was born on Jan. 22, 1922, in New York City, daughter of Nicholas T. Phelan and Marie (McKenna) Phelan.She married Clark Lange in 1946, in Bayside N. Y., shortly after his return from World War II. During their 48 years of marriage, they raised their six children. He predeceased her in 1994.Mrs. Lange had been a Groton resident since 1962. She worked at the University of Connecticut, Avery Point and at the Connecticut Department of Transportation's State Pier. She retired in 1987. Active in the community, she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sacred Heart Rosary Society, Groton Senior Citizens Club, Mystic Valley Chapter of AARP, the Groton Bank Historical Society, and the Child and Family Services Agency.She is survived by four sons, Walter (Carol) of Gaithersburg, Md., Paul (Jennifer) of Malden Bridge, N.Y., Brian of Torrington and Peter (Kate) of Windsor; two daughters, Anne (Wendell Yee), of Arlington, Va. and Mary (John Wilson) of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Gilfedder of Huntington, N.Y.She was predeceased by two brothers, John and James Phelan.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Sacred Heart Church in Groton. Burial will follow in Col. Ledyard Cemetery, Groton. The family will receive friends between 3 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Sacred Heart Building fund (Sacred Heart Parish Office, 56 Sacred Heart Drive, Groton, CT 06340); or to Fairview, (235 Lestertown Road, Groton, CT 06340.
