Celebration of Life

Catherine Elizabeth "Doris" Bacchus, 91, was called home on April 16th 2020. She was the widower of Herman "Boogie" Bacchus. She was born in Berbice, Guyana on September 23, 1928 to Julia Celestina Gonzalez and Charles Alexander both deceased.

Catherine migrated to the U.S in 1977 where she worked as a Nanny for newborns and infants. She then became a Home Health Aide until she retired. Catherine loved to entertain and host parties where she cooked and baked for her family and friends. She is best known for her coconut buns, roti, and cassava pone. On holidays she made her traditional rice wine and pepper pot while listening to Nat King Cole's Christmas music. She loved to tell stories about growing up with her brothers and sisters. "I am the one that represents my brothers and sisters. I am a born Burbecian!"

"I am a proud Alexander."  She was very prideful when telling her stories of her family. At every chance she sung her favorite Alexander song even through her last days in the hospital as well at home. Singing and dancing was her favorite thing to do. "Doris" as she was called would put both hands on her hips and showed you the "RIGHT" way to dance.

Catherine's home was alway open to her family whenever they needed a place to stay. She was the favorite Aunt to all her neices and nephews. She raised her deceased sister's two children Avis And Terry from the ages of 2 years and 6 months. Even as she progressed in age, she still managed to babysit and spend quality time with her great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to Guyana, England and St. Martin for family reunions.

A truly amazing, proud, giving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Her fiestiness, infectous smile and humor will forever hold a place in the hearts of all the lives she touched. She will be missed dearly.

Catherine is survived by her children Clive, Eon, and Sherry. Grandmother to Theanica, Travis, Damon, Akeem, Shennel, and Jomo. Great Grandmother to Leonard Jr, Zanobiah, Lindell, Linzell, Zauriyah, Zeniah, Nailah, and Milania. Mother-In-Law to Mona. Catherine will be reunited with her siblings Issac, Walter, James, Elaine, Francis, Harold, Bibi, Cliff, Iris, Henry, Maud and Desmond.
