She was born on January 15, 1924 in Gloversville, NY to Amasa Merriman and Inez Wickes Brown. Her parents tragically died of pneumonia in 1929 leaving Carolyn and her sister Nedra, ages 5 and 7 , to be raised by their Uncle Keith Brown and Aunt Hazel first in Richford, Vt and then Enosburg Falls, Vt.At the University of Vermont she majored in English and was a member of the newly formed women's ski team. Pitkin and they retired on Cliff Island, Me.Books fed her insatiable appetite for knowledge. From the death of her parents and her search for the meaning of life, she voraciously studied written works of many spiritual masters and attended workshops all over the world. From childhood on Carolyn was an avid writer and she kept a record of her life through stories, poetry and songs. While she loved being active in nature and her creative pursuits, what was experienced as one of her greatest strengths by her children and many who crossed her path was her capacity for compassionate understanding. Loving inclusiveness was her greatest value.
