Carolyn Ann HidalgoOxnard, CACarolyn Ann (Nungaray) Hidalgo, 74, of Oxnard was called home to our Holy Father on Sunday, October 29, 2017. She passed peacefully after a brief illness and amongst her beloved family at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Carol was proud of her volunteer and professional work within education and optometry. She was a longtime PTA volunteer at Oxnard School District. She was a certified optician but shifted careers and, eventually, retired as a library technician for Ocean View School District. She also enjoyed traveling, often visiting her children when they resided outofstate or abroad. Most of all, she was proud to be matriarch of her family. Carol was born on April 27, 1943, in Hawthorne, CA. Her parents, Dalia Villegas (d. 1989) and Joseph Nungary (d. 2005), divorced when she was a toddler. As her parents repartnered, her family grew, making her the second eldest of 11 children. She grew up in La Colonia neighborhood of Oxnard, residing with her mother, sister (Rose Marie Morales of Buena Park, CA), and beloved first cousins during her formative years. She attended Oxnard High School. In 1958, she married Herman "Mino" Hidalgo (d. 2005). In their 47year marriage, they raised 7 loving children: Debra Thrower (and Jim) of Casa Grande, AZ, Sandra Bautista (and Lupe Barraza) of Reseda, Art (and Sara) of Santa Paula, Lisa Corona (d. 2007), Mario of Oxnard, Cyndi (and Don) Knies of West Hills, CA., and Marco (and Elliot) of Chicago, IL. She had 11 grandchildren: Steven and Monique Ayala (Debra), Xylina and Elijah Ribota (Sandra), Amanda and Emily Hidalgo (Art), Bryan Munroe (Lisa), Ian, Jeremy and Isabella Knies (Cyndi) and Isaiah Greenberger Hidalgo (Marco). She also leaves behind 7 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and daughter, Carol was preceded in death by many beloved family members.A Prayer Service will be held for Carol Hidalgo at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard. Per Carol's wishes, viewing prior to the service will be limited to immediate family. Also, per her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes spread at sea.
