On February 25, 2025, the world lost a ray of sunshine with the passing of Carmen Matias of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Born on May 6, 1963, Carmen brought joy and laughter to all those around her.

Carmen married the love of her life, Joe Rivera, in 2015 and they shared many wonderful years together. Although they did not have children of their own, Carmen was a beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren, who adored her playful spirit and kind heart.

Carmen had a passion for cooking and could often be found in the kitchen whipping up delicious meals for family and friends. Her famous arroz con gandules was always a hit at family gatherings.

She had a love for music, especially salsa, and could often be found dancing around the house with a smile on her face. Carmen's infectious laughter and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Although Carmen's passing has left a void in the hearts of those who loved her, her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and warmth.

Rest in peace, Carmen. You will be forever missed and never forgotten.
