C. PAUL CARPENTER, 95 LANARK - C. Paul Carpenter, 95, of Lanark passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll. He was born on Sept. 14, 1918, in Argo Fay, a son of Don and M. Alyce (Mitchell) Carpenter, and was a 1936 graduate of Thomson High School. He married Berneil Cooper on April 17, 1949; she died on Oct. 11, 1955. He married Betty (Kaiser) Bertram on July 28, 1973, in Pearl City. Paul was employed for twenty years at the Freeport Autex Store, Schreiner-Carbaugh Implement, Big A Auto Parts, General Auto Parts, and the City of Lanark as a Police Officer and Zoning Officer. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Good Sam Stagecoach Sam's Camping Club, and was a Boy Scout Leader for thirteen years. Paul rode Indian motorcycles and was a small plane pilot. He owned a 1949 TaylorCraft cloth winged plane. He took his wife, Betty on their first date in this plane. He gave many of his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren their first planes rides (many in this plane). He and his wife loved to travel and visited all fifty states and thirteen countries. Surviving are his wife, Betty Carpenter of Lanark; his daughter, Wanda Petersen of Tulsa, OK; his grandson, Nathien Watts of Tulsa, OK; four granddaughters, Angel McCoy of Kentucky, Charity Mills of Kentucky, Misty Dyer of Iowa, Stacy Baker of Rock Falls; two step-grandchildren, Scott (Janice) Bertram and Shiloh (Kirk) Bausman, both of Freeport; several great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife; son, Harry Carpenter; stepson, Allen Bertram; two sisters, Genevieve (Lester) Weis and Pauline (Gerald) VanKampen; and two brothers, Clyde (Fern) Carpenter and Russell (Dorothy) Carpenter. The visitation will be on from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark.
