Brian Kearns, 61, passed away on June 11, 2025, in Cumberland, Virginia. Born on October 21, 1963, in Montrose, Pennsylvania, Brian lived a life defined by resilience and dedication.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until a Jeep accident on October 31, 1981, left him a paraplegic. Despite this life-altering event at a young age, Brian remained determined and focused on building a meaningful life.
He earned a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and devoted his career to working with troubled youth in his community. His professional path reflected a strong belief in rehabilitation and the potential for positive change.
Brian found fulfillment on his 32-acre ranch, where he embraced the lifestyle of a country farmer. He enjoyed fishing in the lake he built, hunting through wooded trails, and caring for his horses. His connection to nature was a central part of his life.
An avid sportsman despite physical challenges, Brian participated in the Veteran Games as a snowboarder and became a certified scuba diver—testaments to his perseverance and adventurous spirit.
He is survived by his parents, Paul (Pam) Kearns and Kathy Weaver; his sister Rebecca (John) Leavitt; and his brother Tim (Bess) Kearns. He was preceded in death by his brother Patrick Kearns in December 2024.
Brian’s legacy is one of strength, service, and an enduring love for the outdoors. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who hear his story.
