Bonnie Bee Lynn Obituary

Jul 11, 1922 - Jan 05, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Bonnie Bee (Bartee) LynnAbilene, TXBonnie Bee Bartee Lynn, 94, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Faith Baptist Church, 2300 S. 20th St., Abilene with burial following in Shep Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home.Bonnie was born on July 11, 1922 in Shep, Texas to the late Ell Bernard "Butch" and Hazel Christian Bartee. She graduated from Blackwell High School in 1940. Bonnie married William Howard Lynn in May of 1942 and he passed away in 1972. She worked as a tax consultant for 15 years and was a member of the Abilene Women's Bowling Association. She was also a member of Faith Baptist Church.Bonnie was a strong, determined, "get it done" kind of gal. Just 2 1/2 pounds at birth and contracting polio as a little girl; she never should have survived, much less flourished, but she "got it done." As a young girl she saw William Howard "W.H." Lynn and told her girlfriend, "There goes the boy I'm going to marry!" and in May of 1942 she "got it done." Her love for her Lord, love for her family and love for life saw her through; boarding a train in Abilene with an infant and a toddler, leaving West Texas for the very first time, traveling to Grand Central Station in New York City where she made her way with her two babies to the port then boarding a steamer bound for Italy in order to reunite with W.H. She traveled the world with 2, then 3, then 4, then 5 children to always be alongside her Air Force husband; being widowed far too young but establishing herself as a strong independent matriarch and self-supportive "get it done" gal; traveling much of the U.S. with her bowling team; learning to water ski in her 60's; overcoming strokes, breast and colon cancer; never looking back - always up and in general living and loving life to its fullest, earning the love and respect of everyone around her. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her son, Jerry Lynn; and her brother, Sonny Bartee. Survivors include her devoted sons and daughters, Mike, Steve, Linda and Sharon; loving daughters-in-law, Teresa, Sherry and Fleta; and son-in-law, Tim; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bonnie's name to West Texas Rehab or Hospice of the Big Country.
