Bobby Alton BrownAnkenyBobby Alton Brown, 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial following at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service time at the funeral home.Bobby was born on November 20, 1930 in Knoxville, Iowa to Loren and Grace (Hulgan) Brown. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Gretchen Ackelson on December 15, 1970 and they lived in Ankeny for the past 43 years. As a married couple, they shared the joy of helping others and crafting. Bobby worked for Firestone Tire for over thirty years, retiring in the late 1970's. Bobby had a passion for his '57 Ford; he loved to work on it and bring it to car shows. Gardening was also a joy, Bobby would share the harvest with everyone around him. Recently his favorite way to start his day was to enjoy his breakfast with the wonderful people at Sorriso's Grille. Bobby is survived by his children, Kathy (Dee) Popejoy, Denver, CO, Jody (Mike) Tope, Ontario, CA; step -children, Linda McClung, Des Moines, IA, Ron Jackson, Floris, IA, Merl (Betty) Jackson, Columbus, OH, Dorothy (George) Stump, Sylvania, GA, Roy Jackson, Ankeny, IA, Norma (Rebekah) Jackson, Chicago, IL, Dale (Nora) Jackson, Osceola, IA, 6 grandchildren, 5 Great- Grandchildren, and 1 Great- Great- Grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his wife Gretchen; parents; one brother; and four sisters. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
