WOLCOTTVILLE — Betty L. Strombeck, age 93, of Wolcottville, Ind., died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Northridge Village, Albion, Ind. She was born on August 6, 1921, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Paul and Mildred (Saupert) Meyers Sr. Betty was a graduate of the Wayne Beauty College in Fort Wayne, Ind. She married John O. Strombeck on March 17, 1942, at the Emmaus Church in Fort Wayne, Ind. After 62 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on April 4, 2004. They had previously owned and operated City Service Citgo in Wolcottville, Ind., from 1961 to 1973 and Twin Six Tavern from 1973 to 1977 and then moved to Colon, Mich., and returned to Wolcottville in 2001. Betty was also previously employed as a retail clerk in a dress shop. She was a member of the Rome City America Legion Post No. 381 Ladies Auxiliary in Rome City, Ind. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and supporting the Noble and LaGrange County Humane Societies and the Wounded Warrior Project. She is survived by a brother, Robert Meyers of Monroeville, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Meyers of Oklahoma; a nephew, Harry and Nancy Neff of Topeka, Ind.; two nieces, Nataili Sturgis of Kendallville, Ind., and Nanetta and Rex Munson of Shipshewana, Ind; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Virginia; and a brother, Paul 'Sonny' Meyers Jr. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. A Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow the graveside service at the Rome City American Legion Post No. 381, Rome City, Ind., from 3-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family of Betty to share with her favorite charities.
