Kiland, Bette A.Bette A. Kiland, aged 89, of Waunakee, WI, passed away on May 8, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born on November 17, 1927 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Edward J. and Alice G. Cincera. She married James R. Kiland on August 23, 1958.Bette graduated Valedictorian of her class from Monroe High School, St. Paul, MN in 1944 and attended St. Catherine's College in St. Paul. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and was subsequently employed as a social worker in Ramsey County in Minnesota. After her marriage to James Kiland, she became a homemaker. Bette and her husband, Jim, moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin in 1971 where she lived until 2007. An accomplished pianist, Bette later went back to college to obtain her music teaching certificate and went on to teach piano to both adults and children in Marshfield. She was an active member of the Wisconsin Music Teachers' Association and provided piano accompaniment to many junior high and high school music students for regional and state solo and ensemble. She later traveled to Canada to attend a retreat to further enhance her music education. In addition to playing and teaching piano, Bette loved to read, play bridge, travel, cook gourmet meals, and dance with her husband, Jim. She had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and the Caribbean and to Japan. She is survived by her children, Mark (Elizabeth) Kiland, Pewaukee, WI; Robyn Davis (Theodore Williams) Galena, Illinois; Julie Kiland (Lori Ushman) Madison, WI, her Granddaughter, Maribeth (Alex) White, Lodi, Wisconsin; and Great-Grandson, Linus White, as well as her beloved Grand-dogs Hugo, Misha, Dharma, and Winn-Dixie. She is also survived by her dear friends Adeline Kaam, Philip Giampietro and Fernande Kaam, with whom she enjoyed many dinners, conversations, and movies in both Marshfield and in the Madison area.She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Alice Cincera, her husband, James, her sister, Katherine Witkowski and twin daughters. At Bette's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Donations may be made in her memory to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine Companion Animal Fund.
