MITCHELL, Bertha L. 85, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in the Southbrook Care Center. She was born on January 7, 1931, in Carnegie, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Laura Davis Lee. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Mitchell of 64 years in March of 2016. Mrs. Mitchell retired from Lazarus Department Store after 10 years of service and was active with her church, Phillips Chapel CME. She also loved to care for her family and enjoyed baking, especially cakes. She is survived by her four children: Darrel Mitchell of Springfield, Kim (Charles) McFadden of Glendale, Arizona, Sheila (Samuel) Cooke of Columbus, and Sharon (Charles) Harriger of Ann Arbor, Michigan; five grandchildren: Camerin Cooke, Timothy Clark, Rustin (Jannah) Pickett, Jasmine Pickett and Marcus Pickett; three great grandchildren: Tai, Mitchell and Jeremiah Pickett; one sister, Tommie Thomas of Cuthbert, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, daughter-in-law, Cynthia Mitchell, special friends: Danielle Daniels, Rosie Curtis, and Betty Piersoll. She was also preceded in death by her son, Steve Mitchell, and four sisters: Mary Edwards, Melva Richardson, Mamie Green and Barbara Lee. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, December 5th from 6-8:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Dayton VA Cemetery.
