Barbara RothsteinBarbara (Itkin) Rothstein of Clifton, NJ, by way of The Bronx and Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away on November 13, 2017 after 20 years of beating the s*** out of Multiple Sclerosis. She was 75 years old.She is survived by her husband Joel of 54 years; daughter Deborah (and Neil) Murman of Brooklyn, NY; son Neil (and Lisa) Rothstein of Redwood City, CA; grandchildren Lexi, Michael, Sophie, and Gabrielle; sister Arlyn Vogel; sister-in-law Carole Rothstein; brother-in-law Ed Korus; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Morris and Dessie Itkin; sister Sondra Korus; brother-in-law Harold Rothstein; and brother-in-law George Vogel.Barbara was born on February 19, 1942 in The Bronx to Morris and Dessie Itkin. She met Joel Rothstein at a nursing school dance on February 25, 1960 and they married on March, 23 1963. They lived in The Bronx with Deborah and Neil until 1977 when they moved to Fair Lawn, NJ.She was a proud graduate of the Mt. Sinai School of Nursing in 1962 and was a charge nurse and nursing supervisor all before the age of 24. In 1976, she earned her BA from Marymount Manhattan College. She returned to nursing after moving to NJ and worked at Valley Hospital for 15 years in the recovery room.Barbara was an enthusiastic volunteer. She was a Founder of the Co-op City Children's Center and helped form one of the first full-day day-care centers in New York City. She was also the VP of Education at Temple Beth Sholom, President of Fair Lawn Hadassah (twice), Regional Board Member of Northern New Jersey Hadassah and gave generously of her time to other causes that were important to her including American Jewish Congress and the PTA.But most importantly, Barbara was all about family. Her home was the gathering place for all holidays and happy occasions. Her happiest times were entertaining her family and her friends, whom she always considered family. She was the matriarch and center of the family.Kind, generous, and tough, she was a true Woman of Valor and will be deeply missed.Donations may be made in her memory to Temple Beth Sholom of Fair Lawn, NJ; Fair Lawn Chapter of Hadassah; National MS Society; or the Mt. Sinai School of Nursing.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16th at 11:00 AM at Temple Beth Sholom, 40-25 Fair Lawn Avenue, Fair Lawn, NJ. Burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.Arrangements are by Louis Suburban Chapel, Fair Lawn, NJ.
