Mar 04, 1927 - Oct 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Barbara D. Campbell, 85, passed away at her home in Providence on Oct. 17, 2012. She was born on March 4, 1927 in River Heights. She was the daughter of John S. Davis and Ella Olson Davis. She was one of seven children.Barbara married Clyde Joseph Campbell in 1946 following his discharge from the U.S. Navy after the conclusion of World War II. Barbara and Clyde met for the first time at the ice rink in Logan and were inseparable thereafter.Barbara served in many positions in the LDS Church as a member of the Providence 2nd Ward.Barbara started with Mountain Bell as a switchboard operator and moved up the ladder to become chief operator when she retired in 1982 with 30 years of service. Barbara was an avid skier and joined the Beaver Mountain Ski Patrol as an auxiliary patroller. At the time Barbara joined the ski patrol, auxiliary patrollers were not part of the National Ski Patrol (NSP). Barbara encouraged and lobbied the NSP to allow auxiliary patrollers to be part of the system at NSP ski areas. The necessary changes were made and in recognition of her efforts, Barbara was awarded the Yellow Merit Star, one of the highest awards given by the NSP. Barbara was awarded Auxiliary Patroller of the Year by Beaver Mountain in 1983-84. She also received Outstanding Auxiliary Ski Patroller for the Intermountain Division for the NSP. Barbara and Clyde each served more than 30 years on the ski patrol. The ""Barbara and Clyde Campbell Beaver Mountain Ski Patrol First Aid Facility,"" completed in 2000, was named after Barbara and Clyde in recognition of their numerous contributions to the ski patrol and Beaver Mountain. In 2002, Barbara served as a first aid volunteer at the Salt Lake Olympics.Designing and making quilts was probably the most challenging and enjoyable part of Barbara's work and everyday life. The first quilt that Barbara entered in a competition won the top award at the Cache County Fair, the Utah State Fair and the prestigious Springville Museum of Art Quilt Show. Barbara's quilts, which she made for family and friends, numbered more than 200, and were juried and judged in competitions in the South Cache Valley Quilt Guild, the Utah State Fair, the American Heritage Quilt Show as well as quilting competitions in Salzburg, Austria, San Francisco, Calif., and Paducah, Ky. To celebrate Barbara's 80th birthday, a quilt show was arranged by her family at the LDS meetinghouse in Providence. The show included 38 of Barbara's precious quilts. Photographs and descriptions of the quilts will be displayed at the viewing and prior to her funeral.Barbara is survived by her daughter Kristi Campbell Ivie (Bob) of Pebble Beach, Calif.; her grandchildren Clinton Campbell Cooper (Debbie) of Newton and Ingrid Cooper Sorensen (Ben) of Paradise; and her great-grandchildren Chance Clinton Cooper of Paradise, Ryland David Lynn Sorensen of Paradise, Makenzie Dennis of Livingston, Mont., and Oakley Dennis of Newton. Barbara is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Thunell, Janet Wolford, Maureen Uzlick and Faye Durham (Reed); and her brother John Davis (Shirley).
