Audrey Roberts Obituary

Aug 17, 1925 - May 14, 2008

This obituary is administered by:
BRIGHAM CITY - Audrey Claire Constable Roberts passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, surrounded by loved ones. Audrey was born on August 17, 1925, in Dunedin, New Zealand, to Henry Thomas and Elizabeth Jane Constable. She was the only girl of seven children. At age eighteen Audrey read the Book of Mormon and chose to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When missionaries were allowed into New Zealand after World War II, one of the first to arrive was Elder Jesse Roberts. They met briefly and started a correspondence. After returning from his mission Jesse sent for her and with the encouragement of her dear mother she followed her heart and left her home, family, and country to marry her eternal sweetheart in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 29, 1949. This act of faith and courage defined her life. They raised three daughters in Tremonton and Smithfield, Utah, where Audrey was active in various church and civic organizations. Audrey went to work at the bookstore at USU in 1967, where she became a buyer for the art department, retiring after 25 years. She and Jesse then moved to Brigham City where they were able to enjoy 10 years of traveling and being together before his passing in 1996. She has missed her dear Jesse deeply and we rejoice that they are together again. Audrey loved to sew, knit, quilt, crochet and read. At nearly 50 years old she picked up her first paintbrush, and for more than 30 years painting has been her passion. Many family, friends and loved ones are blessed to have one of her exquisite paintings in their homes. Audrey loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many positions throughout her life. Her influence has been felt by many as she shared her love of Christ through quiet example. The last years of her life were quiet, but she was proud to be independent and live in her own home. During her quiet years in Brigham City she had many friends and constantly performed little acts of kindness for them. Audrey is survived by three daughters, Roslyn Lee Niebuhr of Taylorsville, Utah; Rochelle Stenquist (Bill) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dana Mari Johnston (Dennis) of West Point, Utah. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who will miss her deeply. The family would like to thank all those friends and neighbors in Brigham City who provided such kind care and support during her last years allowing her to stay in her own home as long as possible. We are grateful for Alpine Hospice in Brigham City and Salt Lake for its gentle care during her last months. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at noon at the Brigham City 4th Ward Chapel, 25 North 300 East. Family will greet friends on Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
