Arthur D. Brown 1925 - 2017HERKIMER - Arthur D. Brown, 91, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017.Art was born on July 21, 1925, in Herkimer, the son of the late Arthur F. and Caroline Proschack Brown, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School. He was married on May 7, 1955, to Esther Chase; she passed away on July 29, 2016.Art served with the NAVY during WWII and was station on a mine sweeper in the Mediterranean. After his tour with the NAVY, he started working at Remington Rand in 1946 on a four year apprentice program as a tool and die maker. In 1953, he started working at GE retiring from the engineering development lab in 1985.Art attended the Herkimer United Methodist Church, was a member of the Herkimer County Historical Society and the Ilion Fish & Game Club, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying gardening, hunting, fishing, golfing and in his youth, swimming in the West Canada Creek. He also enjoyed woodworking.Art is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Sally, of Clinton, and David and Carla, of Winston-Salem, NC; his daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Timothy Swartout, of Richfield Springs; his grandchildren, Kevin and Jordan Brown, Adam and his wife, Laura Swartout, and Evan and Kathryn Swartout; and a great-granddaughter, Quinn Swartout. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Chase. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and William Stewart, Olive and Virgil Gibbs, and James Chase.Funeral services for Art will be at Noon, Thursday, February 2, 2017, from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion, with Rev. Janet Gleason officiating; interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
