ARMANDO BARRAGAN Obituary

Jun 27, 1927 - Jan 05, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Armando Barragan, 90 years old, a native and life-long resident of El Paso, Texas, passed away quietly in his home on October 5, 2017. Armando was born on June 27, 1927 to parents Guadalupe Vasquez and Primo Barragan; he was the second of five children. As an industrious youngster he worked with his uncle delivering meat and supplies to Ft. Bliss. Armando also worked in his father's pool hall in South El Paso. He was a proud 1945 graduate of Bowie H.S. where he was a Captain in the ROTC. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy in World War II, and deployed to the Pacific Theater. Not long after his return from serving his country, he met and soon married Alice Hirsch, the love of his life. They had two children, son Louis and daughter Laura. Armando worked for Western Cotton Oil at the Globe Mills, and at Farah Manufacturing Co., where he worked for over 30 years and retired as an accounting supervisor. Armando and Alice loved having family barbecues and gatherings in their home with their family; spending Sundays with family watching football, playing cards or dominoes, or shooting pool. He and Alice were founding members of the Roadrunners Club, where they pursued and perfected their jitterbug dance moves with their lifelong friends. Armando was a voracious reader and avid history buff. Armando is survived by his beloved spouse, Alice Hirsch Barragan, son Louis E. Barragan Sr. and his spouse Deborah G. Barragan, daughter Laura Barragan Nebhan and spouse Joseph M. Nebhan. And by his nine grandchildren - Louis E. Barragan II and his spouse Dora Barragan, Michael J. Barragan and spouse Karissa Henry Barragan, Michelle Nebhan Palacios and spouse Dennis Palacios, Jacqueline Barragan, Ashley Nebhan Massaad and spouse Peter Massaad, Stephanie Nebhan and spouse Robert Espinoza, Nayef J. Nebhan, Veronica G. Kay and Maria S. Kay. And by Armando and Alice's 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Carmen Barragan Silva, Hope Barragan Grado, and Edward Barragan. He is predeceased by his parents Primo and Guadalupe, and by his sister Isela Barragan Dominguez. A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 5 to 9 pm with a rosary at 7pm at F.D.A. Martin East located at 1460 George Dieter. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 1pm at St. Raphael Catholic Church located at 2301 Zanzibar Rd. Interment to follow at 2:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery located at 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. Services entrusted to F.D.A. Martin Funeral Home East. www.funerariasdelangel.com/martin-east
