Ardis Rognstad Obituary

May 05, 1931 - Oct 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Ardis L. Rognstad 1931 - 2015 Ardis L. Rognstad, 84, passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, at Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on May 5, 1931, in Kenosha, Wis. to the late Orville and Louise (Piehl) Anderson. She was educated in Kenosha schools and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1949. Ardis married Donald Rognstad on Oct. 21, 1950, at St. Matthews Episcopal church. Donald preceded her in death on March 13, 2004, after 53 years of marriage. After her children were raised, Ardis worked in food service for the Kenosha Unified School system for 23 years retiring in 1988. Donald and Ardis moved to the Bradenton, Fla., area shortly after retiring and spent 10 happy years exploring their new surroundings and enjoying the warmer weather. They returned to Kenosha in 2000 to spend their remaining years with their children and grandchildren. Ardis was a member of the First Presbyterian church and enjoyed being an active member of the congregation. She was a Deacon for three years and prepared communion with her daughter Susan for many years. She joined her church mission trip to D'Iberville, Miss., after Hurricane Katrina to help as much as she could and traveled with the American Red Cross to return to Mississippi a second time only a few months after the church mission trip. She also joined her church group on a mission trip to West Virginia to help those less fortunate. Ardis loved to read, knit, word search puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, but her heart belonged to volunteer work. Women's Horizons was one of her favorites. Ardis and her daughter Susan delivered meals on wheels for several years and she served at the Shalom center making soup and sandwiches. Ardis was preceded in death by her husband Donald; her parents; her brothers, Gerald and Sheldon Anderson; her sister Bernadine Seiler; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Rognstad. She is survived by her three loving children, Bruce (Susan) Rognstad, Brian (Marilyn) Rognstad, and Susan (Frederick) Otto; her grandchildren, Christina (Randall) Beck, Robert (Julie) Rognstad, Julie Talbot, and Nicole Otto; her great grandchildren, Cooper and Brewer Beck, and Eleanor and Sheldon Rognstad; her sister-in-law, Mary Haack; her brother-in-law, Edgar Rognstad; many nieces and nephews; and her constant Chihuahua companion, Molly. The family would like to sincerely thank all the friends that traveled this journey with Ardis. Dr. Shamsuddin Virani and the staff at the Breast Care Center at Froedtert Hospital, the staff at Hospice House and especially nurse Jenny B. and Chaplain Charlie of Hospice Alliance for their compassionate and loving care that was given to Ardis during the past several years. We couldn't have done it without all of you. Visitation will be at Proko Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 4 p.m. until time of prayer service at 6 p.m. Interment will be held privately at Green Ridge Cemetery.
