Allan Robert Cushman, 86, was called home by his Lord on Oct. 27, 2012. He was born on June 11, 1926, in Orland, Calif., where he was raised on the family ranch. He helped his parents raise sheep and hogs. They grew barley, hay, wheat and rice. During his high school years, he drove the school bus for the local two-room school.He was in the United States Army, serving overseas in Germany. Allan was a WWII Veteran, having served in the European Theater with the HQ Battery, Sr. Armored Field Artillery, First Armored Division. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 26, 1948; at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star, World War II Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He worked on Early Radar Systems, testing the V2 Rockets at White Sands Missile Range, and was also a Military Courier. Allan was united in marriage to Charlotte Lucille Andresen, Dec. 21, 1947 in El Paso, Texas. He was preceded in death by both parents, Fredrick Brewster Cushman, and Camille Mariner Smith, two brothers, Fredrick Hamilton Cushman and Barnett Cushman, also loving wife, Charlotte Lucille Cushman. He is survived by daughter: Deborah Erickson and husband Erik of Las Vegas also son, Timothy Cushman and wife Janie, of Sandia Park. He has nine grandchildren: John Erickson of Fairfax, Minn., Janet Posey and husband Cody, of DeRidder, La., Karl Erickson and Jacob Erickson of Las Vegas, Rob Cushman and wife Joy of Albuquerque, Ryan Cushman and wife Emily of Sandia Park, Chearsten Webb and husband David of Albuquerque, Cassie Andersen and husband Mark of Rio Rancho and Daniel Cushman of Sandia Park. Allan has six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and loved extended family.He started work for El Paso Natural Gas Company in 1951 in EI Paso, Texas, working as a Pen and Ink Draftsman, making fireproof drawings. Later he began work in the natural gas pumping stations, beginning at the bottom level and worked his way up to a supervisory position in which he overlooked various stations in the southwest. He retired after 35 plus years.During his life, Allan enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, wood working, macrame, carpentry, ceramics, playing cards, listening to music, loved to play the C Melody Saxophone and Electric Steel Guitar. He also enjoyed putting together model airplanes, ships and cars. Allan loved dogs.Allan enjoyed the United World College students, of which he had students from around the globe come through his home for about 10 years.Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11 at St. Paul's Peace Church, corner of Eighth Street and National Avenue, Las Vegas.
